BULK NICAD CELL/BATTERY CHARGER - TECHNICAL INFORMATION

For charging large quantities of Nicad cells or battery sticks, either when processing new product, or for maintenance re-charging programmes, we have available a series of Bulk Chargers. The charger can be configured to charge a wide variety of Nicad cells, in varying quantities. The illustration shows a portable unit for military use and a unit for charging 48 cells type S106, used in commercial aircraft for liferafts and standby lighting systems.
The units contain dual rate true constant current charger(s), with timer controlled operation for high rate (Main) charge, followed by continuous low rate (Trickle) charge. The rate of charge, timed period and the number of cell holders fitted, is specified by the customer at the time of ordering. Cells are charged in strings, sized according to the total quantity of cells to be processed. Indicators are provided for trickle and main charge, group charge function and AC ON. Controls are one "Reset" button, used to initiate the timed charge period.
All electrical parts of the charger are located behind the main chassis. Cell holders, indicators etc are located on the front of this chassis, and can be viewed without opening up the unit. The front door is lockable to prevent the charge cycle being disturbed, or the cells on charge being pilfered. In addition to the self contained indicators, remote indicator operation is possible by using isolated relay contacts on the master control PCB. Remote monitoring of the charge cycle is then possible.

UNIT DETAILED TECHNICAL DESCRIPTION.

CIRCUITRY: True precision constant current linear charger, with dual rates set to suit customer choice. Control PCB type CH444 provides one master control circuit, which controls other slave PCB's. The Master PCB contains all circuitry to operate in timed and static modes, using a synchronous timer. Reset is by manually operated push button, with external reset available as an optional extra if required.

BATTERY CARRIERS to suit the ALL standard cell/battery sizes are available

Non standard cells can be accomodated by providing special adaptors. The aircraft cell type S106 is fitted into the carriers shown in the photograph. We will be pleased to look at adaptions for other special cells or batteries.
CASE: Welded steel construction with Epoxy Powder coat finish. The standard case is intended for indoor use. Weatherproof cases are available for exterior use if required.
INPUT VOLTAGES: Standard: 240 V AC. Optional: 108/110/115/120/127/208/220/235/240 (or combination)
NOTE: DC input can be used when using the non-synchronous timer options.
INPUT FREQUENCY: Standard: 50Hz: Optional: 60/400 *
* AC Supply Frequency will affect the running of the synchronous motor timer.
If various input frequencies are to be used, please request the CH91 system
which uses electronic timing instead of the CH444.
TIMED PERIOD: Standard: 14.3 Hrs. Optional: Any period subject to availability of suitable timer
CHARGE CURRENTS: Standard: 50/80/120/200/400/700 mA. Optional: Any specified charge current.
NO OF CELLS: Standard: Any quantity specified by the customer, subject to suitable holders and enclosures being available.
(The unit illustrated is a 44-48 cell version, with charging combinations of 8,12,20,24,32,36,44,45,46,47 and 48 cells.
OPTIONS:
CASE: Fixed or mobile. (Service flight case available)
INPUT VOLTAGES: All standard AC voltages, & some DC voltage.
INPUT FREQUENCY: 50, 60, or 400Hz.
MULTI-UNIT CONTROL: One master charger can be configured to control other charger units.
COLOURS & LOGOS: The charger(s) can be supplied in a wide range of colours, and the Customer logo can be screen printed on the case.
