Switch Tripping Supplies - 30V

The Prepair 30V switch tripping Supplies are industry-standard wall-mounting units with all components required to set up a battery backup supply for 11kV sub-station operation.

The photographs on the previous page show the range of units and the main features of the bodies. Other arrangements are available to order, we can offer a high degree of customisation on this sort of equipment.

TECHNICAL DESCRIPTION.

The units are housed in a wall-mounted sheet steel enclosure, with hinged and locable front door, battery voltmeter with 'press to test' switch and an internal test load that applies approximately 13A loading across the battery when the voltmeter switch is pressed. Wall brackets and fixing bolts for the cabinet are supplied with each unit.

The charger unit comprises either a single-rate constant current charger, for use with a sealed Nicad battery pack, or a constant voltage charger for use with a sealed Lead-Acid battery pack.

The charger is rated continuously at 30 Deg C ambient, and is a linear regulator system for single-phase operation. A set of volt-free alarm contacts is available for charger or mains fail alarm.

Battery options are:
30V Sealed Nicad, capacities of 2AH, 4AH and 7AH are available.
30V Sealed Lead-Acid, capacity of 12AH in the standard small case.

Indicators are provided for AC ON and CHARGE. The mains isolator and AC input/Charger output fuses are located inside the door, the voltmeter, test load and indicators are all grouped on the front door. The DC output fuses are located on the main chassis.
Cabinet dimensions 400mm High X 300mm Wide X 250mm Deep.

CONSTRUCTION

All-welded sheet steel cabinet, hinged and locable front door, ventilation slots in the rear panel, pre-punched cable gland holes, 4 X 20mm and 2 X 28mm. Finish to BS381C Shade 697 Light Admiralty Grey, other colours available on quantity orders.

CONNECTIONS

The units have a section of DIN rail, on which are located the AC Input, DC Output and alarm connections. SAK2.5 terminals are used for the mains and alarms, ST5 stud terminals are used for the DC Output.

AC POWER SUPPLY

The chargers are available with single phase 240V input as standard. We can offer 110V or 415V AC inputs as options. Note that operation at 110V input effectively more than doubles the required AC supply current compared with 240V input.

PROTECTION/FUSING

The AC input circuit is controlled by a double-pole isolator switch, and a single fuse is located in the Live conductor. Charger output is also fused, and the DC output has 32A BS88 fuses and carriers with 32A HRC fuse and link.

STANDING LOADS

The 30V 12AH unit can carry a small standing load of up to 300mA maximum, the Nicad units are NOT suitable for standing load operation.

TYPICAL USERS

The units are in use throughout the UK in 11kV sub-station protection. Larger capacity units are also produced.

STANDARD VOLTAGES & BATTERY CAPACITIES

The chargers are available with the following standard outputs:
30V 2AH Nicad, Constant Current Charger
30V 4AH Nicad, Constant Current Charger
30V 7AH Nicad, Constant Current Charger
30V 12AH Lead-Acid 1A Constant Voltage Charger
